Write for us

We welcome pitches that help readers notice the character of nearby places without turning a neighbourhood into a checklist. Send proposals through the Contact page, with the reason for your idea and the detail you want to explore.

What we welcome

We are interested in clear, original ideas about neighbourhoods, streets, shared spaces, local customs and place names. A strong contribution gives readers a useful way to look closer, explains its subject in plain language and treats the people connected to a place with care.

A useful pitch

Tell us the central question, why it matters to a general reader and how you would approach it. Include a brief outline and any relevant experience or material that helps us assess the idea. A focused proposal is more useful than a completed piece sent without context.

Before you send

Please propose original work and flag any relevant commercial interests or material that cannot be independently checked. We cannot promise publication. Use the Contact page to send your proposal; there is no need to approach an individual staff member.
